My 7 week old son looks really cute with no teeth, I on the other hand not so much. I would hope at the very least most people brush their teeth at least once a day. Of course it is recommended to brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. For myself I never had a hard time with the whole brushing teeth aspect of caring for my teeth. In fact many times I might get an extra brush in during the day if my teeth are just feeling yucky. So, for me the brushing the teeth part has always been in place.
Where I was falling short was with flossing. It always seemed like such a chore and just something that took up extra time. Before I changed up my routine, the only time I would floss was if I ate popcorn and got a kernel stuck in my tooth. Honestly I think that is where most people fall short in their dental routines. It is quick and easy to brush but to actually take the time to get the floss out and go in between every tooth just seems tiresome. Well, a few months back I was determined to add flossing into my routine at night. As I got going along I realized that it really was also quick and easy to do. I can tell such a difference in my teeth since I started flossing every day. My teeth just feel so much cleaner and now I can’t stand it if I miss a day flossing.
I also tried to incorporate mouthwash into my routine but that has been a slow go. It isn’t that it takes much time to do but more the fact that it makes my mouth feel on fire. My goal is to brush twice a day and at night continue to floss and use mouth wash.
The last area I think adults fall short is in visiting the dentist. I know when I was little my mom and dad made sure me and my sister went to the dentist but they never went. The only time they would go is if there was a major problem. Because of it there teeth have suffered horribly. I know many times people don’t have dental insurance and that plays a major role in their decision not to see the dentist. However, I would urge people to add this into their budgets because it really is important.
So, I say if your goal is to live to be 100 and you don’t want to spend a good portion of your time dealing with dentures, take a few extra minutes now to save yourself the hassle later. Check out these fun links to get you and your family motivated.
